Legend of Armenian weightlifting, Olympic Champion at Barcelona 1992 in the 67.5 kg class and Olympic silver medalist at Seoul 1988. Born in Leninakan, he took up weightlifting in 1980 under his cousin Vardan Militosyan.
At Seoul 1988 Militosyan took silver with a 337.5 kg total, just 2.5 kg behind the gold medalist. At Barcelona 1992 he set an Olympic snatch record at 155 kg, jerked 182.5 kg, and won gold with a 337.5 kg total — 10 kg clear of silver.
In 1989 in Athens he won both World and European Championship gold medals, setting a world record in the snatch (160 kg). To this day Militosyan remains the last Armenian Olympic Champion in weightlifting. He retired in 1999 and later worked as a coach in his hometown of Gyumri.
