The 2006 World Championships were held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from 30 September to 7 October. Armenia took three bronze medals in total — Ara Khachatryan (77 kg, 357 kg), Tigran V. Martirosyan (85 kg, 370 kg) and Meline Daluzyan in the women's 63 kg class (232 kg).
The event marked Tigran G. Martirosyan's senior World Championship debut — at age 18 he placed 6th in the men's 69 kg class with a 306 kg total.
