Armenian female weightlifter, 2009 World Champion in the 69 kg class. Born in Gyumri in 1986.
Avdalyan became the first Armenian female weightlifter to win World Championship gold and the first Armenian woman to become a World Champion in any sport. Following her victory she was voted Armenian Sportswoman of the Year for 2009 by the Armenian Sport Journalists Federation.
In 2010 she suffered serious injuries from a car accident, including multiple fractures and a spinal injury. After a seven-year absence Avdalyan made a remarkable comeback and won European Championship gold in 2016.
After retiring from competition she founded a sports development foundation in her name, dedicated to supporting young athletes.
