The 2016 European Championships were held in Førde, Norway on 10–16 April — the last continental event before the Rio Olympics. Armenia took an all-Armenian top two in the men's 77 kg class — gold for Andranik Karapetyan (367 kg) and silver for Tigran G. Martirosyan (352 kg). Simon Martirosyan added bronze at 105 kg (402 kg), Gor Minasyan silver at +105 kg (443 kg), and Nazik Avdalyan gold in the women's 69 kg class (237 kg).
